- The prosthetic component (TiBase, abutment)
- The surgical kit (to place it)
- Maybe a membrane (Straumann Membrane Plus)
- Maybe a surgical guide (for guided surgery)
- Maybe a surgical motor…
Each of these comes from a different part of the catalog. Each has its own SKU. And if you’re ordering for a patient with a specific need (like an immediate placement case where SLActive is critical), the stakes are higher.
In September 2022, I ordered a Surgical Robot accessory. Did I need it? No. I’d misread the product code. The cost of that mistake? $870. The return process was possible, but it took 2 weeks.
The deeper cause is this: we treat ordering like data entry when it’s really clinical decision-support.
You need to know not just the part number, but how it fits into the surgical workflow. Does the BLT implant you ordered need a specific TiBase? Yes. Was it a silver bullet? No. But it changed the mindset. Ordering isn’t administrative work anymore. It’s clinical preparation.
